We're delighted to announce that we have helped more than one million families, or five million people, to improve their living conditions since 1976.
At Habitat for Humanity we’re delighted to announce that we have helped more than one million families, or five million people, to improve their living conditions since we were founded in 1976.
Time and again, we’ve seen how a stable home provides a firm foundation for families to break the cycle of poverty. It leads to improved health, a stable income and better education and employment opportunities.
During the past year, globally we served more than 300,000 families — about 1.6 million people in more than 70 countries — through building, renovating and repairing homes or increasing access to improved shelter through products and services.
An additional 1.6 million people have the potential to improve their housing conditions through a variety of services including advocacy efforts that changed policies and systems to allow more access to shelter solutions, as well as training in construction and financial management.
This work is possible thanks to the hands and hearts of more than 2 million volunteers and the financial support of our many generous donors. In addition to helping on Habitat build sites, volunteers also serve in Habitat ReStore, helping at events or in our office.
Tonight 1.6 billion people go to sleep without a decent place to live. Our work will not stop until this is zero. As we celebrate the joy and hope of the 5 million people we have served, we renew our commitment to continue to build towards a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
