Life journeys of women all around the world start at home. Some are more challenging than others. But all the women share an unbreakable will to live in decent conditions. Read Loredana's story below.
In 2014, floods devastated Vaideeni, Romania. Many families lost their homes and were forced to find accommodation elsewhere.
Loredana lives with her husband and 2 small children, in a shabby dwelling owned by her in-laws. The house is getting worse, as each time it rains, more pieces fall from the ceiling. The family’s safety is at risk and the house is drafty, allowing rodents and the cold weather to get in. They only have one room, which serves as a bedroom, bathroom and even as kitchen during wintertime. This is the place where the family lives, washes and also cooks.
All Loredana desires is a decent, safe and warm home for her children. They are sick often given the poor conditions in their current house.
With support from Habitat for Humanity, Loredana’s greatest hopes have been realised. Her children now have a safe place to grow. Loredana and her family will shortly be moving into their new home, which they built alongside members of the local community and Habitat volunteers.
She and her husband can sleep soundly, knowing that they have a home where the rain can’t get in and the walls will keep out the cold.
