How long have you worked for Habitat?Since November 2015.
I was a Church Youth Worker in Belfast and Banbridge for 6 years before joining the staff team at Habitat. However I’ve been involved as a volunteer since 2006 when I travelled to Cape Town on a University Global Village team and was involved on some of the local volunteering projects whilst I was a youth worker.
Right from my very first day as a volunteer in 2006 to being a staff member I have the privilege of seeing the work first hand that Habitat does both here in Northern Ireland and globally, I love seeing God at work everyday through the faithful commitment of many staff, volunteers and supporters as we seek to put God’s love into action in order to have a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
I love meeting people and hearing how they have got involved in Habitat and telling new people how they can join us in our mission and get involved too!
Hard to choose – one particular highlight that stands out was after delivering a workshop about Habitat’s work to a group of 7-8 year old, one of the children came up to me with all the change she had and she said "Please give that to Habitat to help people have safer homes". That really impacted me the beauty of that small act of that little girl.
The sheer need we consistently face in our work – with more than 1.6 billion people living in poverty housing and an ever growing number due to urbanisation, natural disasters as well as people being displaced from their homes due to conflict, strife and lack of opportunities.
Do it! You’ll not regret getting involved and there is a role for everyone at Habitat – it’s such a joy to be part of the life changing work; whether through volunteering, donating, supporting or praying for our work.
