Meet Cecelia. Cecilia and her five siblings once lived in a damaged house in Malawi that leaked every time it rained, completely soaking the few possessions they had, including the children’s schoolwork and books. Since moving into a Habitat home, Cecilia no longer worries whether the weather will affect her education . The solid roof protects them from rain, and creates a place where the children can study to improve their future.
Meet Raul and Daria. In 2013, floods overtook their home in Romania, and with their parents’ modest income the family could not afford to renovate. Soon, mould was growing and the family had to set up an improvised kitchen and bathroom outside. But in 2015, the family worked alongside volunteers to build their own home. Now, the constant smiles on Raul and Daria’s faces remind their parents every day what it means to have a healthy, decent place to call home.
Meet Robson. Robson is one of thousands of Zambians who have been helped by Habitat for Humanity’s work with vulnerable groups. In 2005, Habitat for Humanity Zambia created a program specifically to help address the extreme housing needs of children left orphaned by the country’s HIV/AIDS epidemic. Today, Robson and his grandmother live together in a safe, sturdy brick house. Like Robson, every child deserves a stable, healthy start in a safe and secure home.
