Natasha has been volunteering in ReStore Lisnagelvin since the store opened last summer, giving over 700 hours of her time to support our work. Read her story below.

Why did you sign up to volunteer in ReStore and how long have you been a volunteer?

I was offered a placement opportunity through the Work Experience Programme, it was a scheme through the Jobs & Benefits office. I’ve been here for almost 10 months!

What motivates you to keep coming back?

I really enjoy the support from the staff team as well as working together with all our volunteers.

What skills, qualities or experience do you bring to ReStore?

I’m really committed to ReStore and love being consistent each week with my volunteering shift. I’m hardworking and a quick learner which helps in a new store!

What’s your favourite task?

That’s a tricky question! I love everything in ReStore but if I had to pick something it would have to be Customer service at the till and PAT testing our electrical items to make sure there safe for selling.

What have you learned during your time in ReStore?

I have learned how to work as part of a team and PAT testing, the till system and so much more.

What has surprised you about working in ReStore?

How much I actually enjoy it because when I first started, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. How supportive the public are of the new store and the quality of donations they are giving.

What’s been your highlight so far?

Making new friends!

What has challenged you at ReStore?

Coming out of my shell and my comfort zone and being at the front of the shop with the public.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met in ReStore and why?

Has to be Super Steve!! Steve is our collections driver and ReStores biggest jokester. I love working alongside Steve, having the craic, volunteering and really helping our local community at the same time.

What’s the thing that inspires you most about Habitat’s work?

The way that Habitat helps people make homes, supporting our local community from ReStore Lisnagelvin and offering volunteer opportunities to everyone.
