Billy began volunteering in ReStore to help out in his local community. Now he enjoys coming in every week, meeting new people and learning new skills.
I just thought it would be nice to do something in the local community. My dad’s a regular customer in ReStore, so that’s how I found out about volunteering here!
I started volunteering in January 2017, so almost 10 months now.
It’s good to get out and about and help out in my local area. There’s also great craic to be had in store, I really enjoy it.
I’ve worked in charity shops before, so I’ve got a lot of retail skills to bring to the store.
I enjoy lots of tasks, I do a bit of everything in the shop! But I especially like going out in the lorry to do collections and building the furniture we get donated!
I’ve learned loads about Habitat and the work they do, here in Northern Ireland and in other countries.
The variety of people who volunteer! I never would have met some of these people if I hadn’t come to ReStore, and it’s great we all get on so well, even though we’re all so different.
Joining the team has been my favourite bit. There’s a great atmosphere in ReStore and we’re always having a laugh while we work.
Talking and interacting with customers was quite challenging at first, but I’ve got used to it now.
Rab, one of the supervisors! He’s a great laugh and I always really enjoy joining him in the lorry to do collections. He makes the experience a fun one!
The fact that they help and support people who have nothing, it’s amazing.
