The housing need in Romania is one of the most severe in the European Union. Of the 5 million Romanians who live in poverty, 1.5 million are children, with more than 52% of the population living in overcrowded conditions.
For more than 20 years, people from across Ireland have generously supported our partnership with Habitat Romania. Habitat's work improves homes and community buildings with low-income families and the most vulnerable, in a country where more than 5 million people live in poor conditions.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Habitat for Humanity Romania have been supporting refugees to help them access safe shelter. As well as continuing to provide support at the borders and train station Habitat for Humanity Romania is also refurbishing empty spaces to turn them into safe shelter for refugees arriving from Ukraine.
"We deeply appreciate the partnership with Habitat Ireland. Together we are making a positive, lasting difference."Roberto Patrascoiu, National Director of Habitat Romania
