46% of Kenyans live on less than a dollar a day and most children lack access to basic needs. Four million Kenyans live in slums. This represents 56% of the country's urban populations.
Habitat Kenya supports marginalized and vulnerable groups such as orphans, widows, the elderly, persons living with disability, who are living in dilapidated housing conditions and lack access to water and proper sanitation facilities. In addition to supporting at individual and household levels, Habitat Kenya provides solutions that benefit and impact whole communities such as water and sanitation and energy solutions, construction of schools and other community infrastructure.
Join with volunteers from across Ireland in Kenya next summer. The team will travel and work alongside the local community. Participants will also have a chance to visit and understand more about Habitat’s work in Kenya. Volunteers will:
SEE the reality of housing poverty and learn more about Habitat’s impact
SERVE families and communities in need
SPEAK out for the cause of safe, decent housing when they return home

Habitat co-ordinates everything for a safe and rewarding experience. You don’t need specific skills to take part. Participants will be expected to attend team meetings (in person or online), raise or contribute funds within an agreed timeline and follow all Habitat’s policies and procedures.
The team will travel to Kenya for one week in June 2025. This will include at least five days in the community Habitat works. Participants will be serving alongside the community and local volunteers but also have the opportunity learn about the impact of Habitats work.
Dates may vary by 1-2 days depending on flight options.
The budget to take part is £3,350/€3,950p/p (this includes a non-refundable deposit, flights, in-country expenses and a minimum £1,250/€1,475 donation towards Habitat’s work). Of the £3,350/€3,950pp volunteers make a minimum personal contribution of £/€500 towards logistics costs. If you are unable to make this contribution, get in touch.
There are lots of ideas and resources to support fundraising. Volunteers must be clear about what the funds raised will support.
