Local Primary Schools celebrate Earth Day at ReStore!

Habitat ReStore Newtownards engaged pupils from local primary schools to learn more about how they can reduce waste.

Students from four local primary schools visited ReStore Newtownards, the low-cost DIY Store that builds sustainable communities, to celebrate World Earth Day.

Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future.

Pupils from Regent House Prep, West Winds Primary, Kircubbin Primary and St. Finian’s Primary came along for an hour and heard how ReStores are making an impact in their community; how they can reduce waste both at home and at school and also took part in a repurposing activity.

ReStore is Habitat for Humanity Ireland’s social enterprise that is directly tackling poverty and building sustainable communities. ReStore provides access to low-cost home improvement materials for local people, employability training for people of all abilities and diverts tons of material from landfill.

Michael Gray, ReStore Newtownards Manager, said “It was great to welcome more than 100 students from the local area to ReStore to commemorate World Earth Day. Every year, ReStores across the country divert more than 1,500 tonnes of reusable materials from landfill, and more than 90,000 local people are able to access low-cost materials to improve their home".

ReStore is open on the Portaferry Road every Monday-Saturday, 9.30am-5pm.
